Thanks for the wonderful tutorial! Do you have any rules for layering? From white/light color to dark color etc. or just anyway you like? Generally how many layers in a painting, etc. Thanks.

The only criticisms I have are that the brush is too narrow and that directional brushing should be varied in 2 planes not just one. I'm very amateur as a painter but my career was in the preparation of canvasses and mouldings for gilding with gesso both soft and hard. Have you considered making your own varnish?

Amazing. The depth and the detail are are phenomenal. I'm just starting out with oil. I've done some watercolor and some graphite and charcoal sketches. If I can ask what kind of oil paint are you using and do you use any mediums?

Just found your video's the other day. They came up on my feed for some reason. I'm hooked. You are not only an artist, but a good teacher as well. Many are good at one or the other but not both! Thank you for sharing your tutorials. I am a hobby artist who is attempting oils for the first time. I was looking for the free ones on RUclips to get me started before choosing an online class. I love your video's that I ran across for the first time today! (not sure why the algor's didn't put you in my feed previously?) I'm off to grid my canvas! I'll watch the other video's that you have as for my next steps and then dig in. I'll be interested in your online classes if/when you begin them. Sorry. I liked the video content but the bouncy music volume made it unwatchable. Music choice was bad as well but minor comparatively. Tip for future videos. The music levels should be set below the narrator voice levels in between the voiceover sections. Dropping the music volume during voiceovers is fine, but the point is to have background music that compliments the voice and video, not have a narrated music video. Also, a softer more contemporary music would be a far better choice than music which is beat heavy and inconsistent.

Nah, you're art is definitely my thing. I like the concept of it and hope there's similar ones. I have watched your videos on how you did this one too. Great painting. I like the mood you created, with the light, as well as how you didn't clutter it but let the eyes of the viewer flow easily. Also the contrast of colours work really well due to the values you used. It's detailed and yet it breathes, and tells a story too.

Love to see actual painting on the grid. Do you complete each square and move on to the next?
